Admiral in San Bruno
Admiral in San Bruno kitchens.
San Bruno's older neighborhoods, Rollingwood, Portola Highlands, and the streets around the old Tanforan site, are full of tract homes from the 1950s and 60s, and a lot of them still have a garage freezer that's been running since before some of the current owners were born. Admiral shows up here as that second freezer or an aging fridge nobody's gotten around to replacing. The airport corridor brings extra dust through the neighborhood, which doesn't do a garage condenser coil any favors.
Because Admiral was built by Maytag, the part you need for a 1990s or 2000s unit is almost always available under a Maytag or Whirlpool number even though the Admiral badge disappeared from the market years ago. We confirm the cross-reference and the fit before we quote a repair, so you know what you're paying for before anything gets ordered.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Garage upright freezer won't hold temperature. The defrost timer fails, ice packs the coil behind the back panel, and the freezer warms over a few days even though the door still seals fine. Admiral's own timer is usually discontinued, but the Whirlpool-platform equivalent fits most of the units we see in San Bruno.
- Evaporator fan iced over and stalled. Airport-corridor dust works into the fan housing over the years until the blade drags on built-up frost and stops turning. Without airflow the freezer runs warm in front and stays frozen solid in back. Clearing the ice and freeing or replacing the fan motor fixes it.
- Door gasket hardened, letting cold escape. A stiff, cracked gasket on an older upright lets warm air leak in every time the door's been open, so the compressor runs almost constantly trying to keep up. Hard on the compressor over time. The gasket cross-references to the Maytag platform on most models.

FAQ
Admiral in San Bruno questions, answered.
-
Should I fix a decades-old garage freezer or just get a new one?
If it's a defrost timer, a fan motor, or a gasket, fixing it usually makes sense, those are inexpensive parts on a box that's otherwise sound. A failed compressor on a freezer this old is a harder call. I'll walk you through it at the $99 diagnostic, and that fee is waived if you decide to move forward with the repair. -
Are Admiral parts even available anymore?
For most components, yes. Admiral was a Maytag brand, so timers, fan motors, and gaskets usually cross-reference to current Whirlpool part numbers. I verify by model and serial before ordering so we're not stuck waiting on a part that doesn't exist. -
How quickly can someone reach San Bruno?
Our Peninsula technician is based in San Mateo, about 10 minutes down 101, so San Bruno is one of the closer stops on his route. We don't promise same-day on every job, but once it's booked, we show up in the window we gave you, seven days a week.
