Viking Error Codes: Oven Messages, Cooktop Faults and Dishwasher Warnings

Match a Viking error to its model and manual: touch-control oven messages, induction faults, flashing lights and dishwasher water warnings.

By 7 min read

Before looking up a Viking error, photograph the display and find the model number. Keep the capitalization and punctuation: they can change what you’re looking at. The tables below name the appliance and manual they belong to. Don’t use a cooktop list to diagnose an oven, or order a part from the code alone.

Start with your appliance:

This guide doesn’t supply a Viking refrigerator code chart. If your model or display isn’t listed, send the office a photo and the model number so we can identify the right documentation.

Touch-control wall ovens

For VESO5302T, VEDO5302T, CVESO5302T and CVEDO5302T, the source is Viking’s Professional Built-In Electric Touch Control Single and Double Ovens Use & Care, F20813D EN, April 1, 2016, page 34 (PDF page 34). It gives these messages:

DisplayMeaning in this manual
MODEL ERRORAn incorrect model number has been installed.
RTD ERRORRTD is open or shorted.
PROBE ERRORThe meat probe is open or shorted.
LATCH ERRORThe control is unable to lock or unlock the door latch.
KEYBOARD ERRORNo connection exists between the keyboard and control.

The same message-and-problem pairs appear in two older guides: Designer Series Built-In Electric Touch Control Single and Double Ovens, F20686 EN, October 29, 2009, printed page 64 (PDF page 33), and Professional & Designer Series Built-In Electric Touch Control Single and Double Ovens, F20366F EN, July 13, 2009, printed page 57 (PDF page 29). Use those lists only when the guide matches your oven.

For PROBE ERROR, page 34 of F20813D says to check whether the meat probe is plugged into the oven. If it isn’t, plug it in and press OFF to clear the message. If it is already plugged in and the message remains, the guide calls for service. The other messages in this table also call for service. They aren’t instructions to replace a sensor, control or latch yourself.

An oven that runs but cooks at the wrong temperature is a different starting point. See our Viking wall-oven temperature guide.

VGSO166 gas wall oven

Viking’s Professional Built-In Gas Thermal-Convection Ovens Installation Guide, F20518E EN, June 14, 2010, has a short Service Codes: VGSO166 list on printed page 26 (PDF page 14). These definitions are specific to that model; they are not a universal Viking range list.

DisplayMeaning in this manual
F1Shorted probe
F2Open probe
F3Controller malfunction

The guide calls for service when one of these appears. Arrange service; don’t open the oven, test live wiring or adjust gas components.

For an ignition symptom without a matched code, see the Viking 5 Series ignition guide or an igniter that glows but doesn’t light the burner.

Designer electric cooktops

Source: Viking’s Designer Built-In Electric Cooktops Use & Care Manual, F20699 EN, September 15, 2009, page 16 (PDF page 16). This is the control with a letter pair on the timer display. The manual says a detected error stops the heating elements.

DisplayMeaning in this manual
FA, FCKey error
FE, FtTemperature sensor failure
FcOver temperature
FrRelay error
FHControl error (EEPROM)
FJKey error
FOSoftware error
FLKeyboard error (ambient light)
FUKey error
FdLED On/Off test error
FbKeyboard error
F5Communication error

Notice the distinction between FA, FC and Fc. The printed table uses both upper- and lower-case letters. Preserve them when reporting the fault. This table identifies the reported error; it doesn’t give an owner repair procedure.

Older induction cooktops and rangetops

These lists count flashes in a repeating group, with a brief interval between groups. They come from two Viking Use & Care manuals: Built-In Electric Radiant/Induction Cooktop, F20111C EN, February 22, 2008, and Built-In Electric Induction Rangetop, F20114A EN, March 31, 2008. Both tables are on printed page 7 (PDF page 4).

Flashes per repeating groupMeaning in this manual
1Internal power device over temp.
3Internal power device malfunction
5Power device temperature sensor malfunction
6Coil temperature sensor malfunction
8Inside ambient temperature too high
9Incompatible cookware for induction

The adjacent owner instructions distinguish a hot surface, a missing pan, a pan that is too small and incompatible cookware. If the flashing continues after the guide’s cookware checks, it says to call a service technician. These older flash counts should not be applied to a newer range’s illuminated knobs.

RVIC induction cooktops

For RVIC3304B, RVIC3306B and RVIC3366B, use Viking’s 3 Series Built-In Induction Cooktops User / Install Guide, 082110-000C EN, November 15, 2024. The display description is on page 11 and troubleshooting on page 18 (the same PDF page numbers).

DisplayMeaning in this manual
EElectronic failure.
E1 or Er03An object or liquid covers the control keys.
E2 or E HThe cooktop is overheated
E3The pan is not adapted
E6Defective network.
E8The air inlet of the ventilator is obstructed

For E1 or Er03, the guide says the indication disappears when the covered key is released or cleaned. For E2 or E H, let the cooktop cool before switching it on again. For E3, it says to change the unsuitable pan. Its word “network” in E6 refers to the electrical supply, not Wi-Fi. Leave voltage, frequency and connection checks to a technician. If an indication persists, the guide calls for service.

Panorama cooktop and downdraft

For MVIDC6364BBG and MVIDC6485BBG, source: Viking’s RVL 36-inch or 48-inch Panorama Cooktop & Downdraft User Guide, dated June 23, 2025, page EN-35 (PDF page 35). No document number is printed in this guide.

DisplayMeaning in this manual
EThe electronic system is disrupted.
(Er03)The controller keys are covered by liquid or an item.
E2The cooktop has overheated
E8The fan air supply is blocked.
U400The cooktop has not been properly connected to the network.
(Er47)Problem in the appliance’s internal bus system.

The guide also shows a separate no-pan symbol and normal Keep Warm and Stop & Go indications. They aren’t included as faults here. Its owner advice for covered keys and an overheated cooktop is to clear the keys or allow the cooktop to cool. Persistent messages call for service; electrical connections and internal bus faults need professional testing.

Incogneeto induction warmer

This is the Incogneeto warmer, not an induction range. Source: Viking’s Incogneeto Induction Warmer Use and Care / Installation Guide, F21461 EN, May 30, 2015, page 14 (PDF page 14).

DisplayMeaning in this manual
E-01Broken Temperature Sensor
E-03Over current (peak)
E-06High line voltage
E-07Hardware failure
E-08Zero cross failure
E-10Magneeto™ II RTD Failure
E-11Tag communication
E-12Wireless communicator reader failure
E-13User interface error
E-16Critical error

The owner table suggests trying different cookware for E-03 and checking that the pan’s wireless communicator tab is positioned properly for E-11. The listed sensor, hardware and critical faults call for service. Don’t open the warmer or its control box to investigate.

Dishwasher water warnings

Viking documents these warnings for VDWU524SS, VDWU524WSSS, FDWU524WS, FDWU524, VDWU324SS and FDWU324 in the 3 & 5 Series Dishwasher Use & Care Manual, 068680-000D EN, March 2, 2021, page 21 (PDF page 21). The 7 Series VDWU724 / FDWU724 Use & Care Manual, 078662-000 EN, January 20, 2023, page 15 (PDF page 15), describes the same warnings. The table lists both warnings; the two manuals use the same codes and headings:

DisplayMeaning in this manual
E:02WATER CUT-OFF WARNING
E:01OVERFLOWING WARNING

E:02: the manuals describe a cut-off main water supply or a closed inlet valve. The program pauses; after water returns, the warning clears and washing resumes.

E:01: the machine has detected too much incoming water or a leak at a component. Its safety response tries to discharge the water. If the warning doesn’t disappear, both guides say to contact service. Don’t treat it as a code to keep clearing, and don’t remove panels or bypass the leak protection.

VMOH330SS microwave hood

Viking’s Built-in Microwave Hood VMOH330SS Use & Care Manual, TINSLB072MRR0, page 25 (PDF page 25), gives this definition in its question-and-answer section. The manual does not print a publication date.

DisplayMeaning in this manual
Er01SENSOR ERROR

The sensor-cooking explanation on page 17 says opening the door or pressing STOP/CLEAR during the sensing part of the cycle interrupts the measurement. It tells the owner to press STOP/CLEAR and cook manually. That is an owner control-panel instruction, not a reason to remove the microwave cover. If the message occurs without that interruption, book service.

VCSO210 Combi Steam/Convect oven

For VCSO210 and CVCSO210, Viking’s Combi Steam/Convect Oven Use & Care Manual, TINSLB029MRR2-E (English section), April 18, 2016, lists these error messages on printed page 74 (PDF page 76).

DisplayMeaning in this manual
EEtechnical error
Finish cooking by time. Press CLEAR.The sensor does not detect vapor properly in microwave sensor mode.

The guide calls for service for EE. For the sensor message, it says to press STOP/CLEAR and finish cooking with manual time. The cooling, water-reservoir and drip-tray notices on printed pages 74 and 75 (PDF pages 76 and 77) are listed as information messages, not faults in this table.

A range with red or pulsing knob lights

The Professional Freestanding Ranges / Built-In Rangetops Use & Care, 066424-000D EN, October 31, 2022, page 11, covers VGR7362, VGR7482, VDR7362, CVDR7362, VDR7482, CVDR7482, VRT736 and VRT748. It describes pulsing during preheat and red backlighting for an error. It does not provide a table mapping flash counts to individual faults. Record the color and repeating pattern for service; don’t borrow the older induction flash table above.

Book independent Viking service

FAQ

Common questions.

Do Viking error codes mean the same thing on every appliance?
No. Use the model and manual listed with each table. An oven message, induction fault and dishwasher warning belong to different controls. This page does not provide a refrigerator code chart.
Should I keep resetting a Viking appliance that shows a fault?
Follow only the owner step in the guide for your exact model. If the fault remains, book service. Do not open panels, test wiring or gas fittings, or bypass a safety device.
Does a flashing Viking knob always mean an error?
No. The range and rangetop guide cited below describes pulsing during preheat as well as red error indications. Record the color and pattern along with the model number; that guide does not publish a flash-count fault table.
Can ADRIUM handle a Viking error-code visit?
We provide independent Viking service. The diagnostic visit is $99, credited toward a completed repair. For an appliance under manufacturer warranty, start with Viking's own service channel.
