Why this happens

What we look for first.

  • Clogged drain pump or filter plate. The DishDrawer pulls water out through a small drain pump under the tub. Food debris, glass chips, and grease cake up on the filter plate and choke the pump impeller. You get standing water in the bottom of the drawer and often an F1 or a flashing error. We pull the filter plate, clear the impeller by hand, and flush the line. This is the most common cause and the cheapest fix.
  • Failed drain pump motor. If the pump is clear but the drawer still will not empty, the pump motor itself is dead or seized. You hear it hum or you hear nothing at all when it should be running. F&P drain pumps are a known wear item on older DD60 and DD24 drawers. We test the winding for resistance and continuity before condemning it. Replacement is a straightforward swap once the drawer is out.
  • Cracked or worn drawer seal letting it siphon back. The DishDrawer rides on a lip seal around the top edge of the tub. When that seal hardens or splits, water sneaks past and the drawer never reads as empty, or it refills after a drain. You often see a slow leak at the front lip too. The seal is a wear part on drawers more than five or six years old. We replace it and reset the drawer alignment.
  • Blocked or kinked drain hose under the cabinet. The drain line runs from the pump up to a high loop and into the disposer or standpipe. A kink behind the drawer, a grease plug at the high loop, or a clogged disposer knockout will all back water up into the tub. We disconnect at the disposer and check for flow both directions. If the disposer plug was never knocked out at install, that alone will stop every drain.
  • Faulty control module or motor rotor position fault. Each drawer has its own control board reading the rotor and pump. A failed board, a corroded harness, or a rotor position fault will leave the drawer thinking it is mid-cycle and refusing to drain. This usually throws a repeating fault code like F2 or U1. We read the code, check the harness pins, and test the board before replacing anything. The board is the pricier part, so we confirm it hard first.
  • Water leaving the wrong way: motor and rotor wear. On the DishDrawer the same motor drives wash and the rotor seats the spray. When the rotor bearing wears or the motor brushes go, drain timing falls out and water sits. You may hear grinding or the drawer stalls partway. This shows up more on high-cycle drawers in busy kitchens. We inspect the rotor and motor as a unit and rebuild or replace what is worn.

How we diagnose and fix it

The walk-in workflow.

  1. 01

Pull the error code off the drawer display and note whether it is F1, F2, U1 or no code at all.

  2. 02

Open the drawer, remove the filter plate, and check the pump impeller and sump for debris or glass.

  3. 03

Disconnect the drain line at the disposer or standpipe and confirm flow, check the high loop for grease blockage.

  4. 04

Test the drain pump motor for continuity and resistance, and inspect the drawer lip seal for cracks.

  5. 05

If pump and line are good, read the control module and rotor harness for a position fault before quoting any board.

Pricing and warranty

What it costs. What we stand behind.

  • $75

Diagnostic visit. Waived when you book the repair with us.

  • Typical

Most drain jobs land between $185 and $340 for a filter and pump clear or a drain pump replacement, parts and labor. A drawer seal runs a bit higher with the labor to pull and reseat the drawer. Control module or motor and rotor work is the bigger job and runs higher depending on the model and part availability. We diagnose first and quote in writing before we touch anything.

  • Warranty

You get a parts and labor warranty in writing before we start, around 90 days on consumables like seals and filters, and 1 year on major components like the drain pump, control module, and motor. No surprises after the fact. We write the price and the coverage on the quote before any work begins.

FAQ

Fisher & Paykel Fisher & Paykel dishwasher in Palo Alto questions.

  • There is standing water in the bottom of my DishDrawer. Can I clear it myself before I call?
You can try. Pull the filter plate at the bottom of the drawer and check the sump and pump impeller for food, glass, or a toothpick jammed in there. Bail out the standing water with a cup first so you can see. If it is clear and the drawer still will not drain, the pump or the control is at fault and that is our call. Do not run it repeatedly with water sitting, you can flood the motor.
  • My F&P DishDrawer is flashing F1. What does that mean?
F1 on a DishDrawer is a flood or water fault, and it very often shows up when the drain is blocked and water is sitting where the sensor does not want it. The drawer shuts down to protect the motor. Clear the filter and check the drain line first. If it keeps throwing F1 after that, the pump or the sensor harness needs testing. We sort that in one visit.
  • Is it worth repairing a DishDrawer or should I just replace it?
Depends on the drawer and the fault. A pump or filter job on a solid DD24 or DD60 is well worth it, these drawers last a long time and we like working on them. If it is a failed control module on a very old single drawer with other wear, we will tell you straight whether the repair makes sense against a new unit. We give you that read after the diagnostic, not before. Either way you get the number in writing.
