Heating & cooling

AC & HVAC repair in Hayward.

Furnace, AC, and heat pump work from the Mt Eden flats to the Hayward Hills, where the marine layer decides what the job is.

Call (925) 999-4095

Hayward is two climates wearing one city name. The flats through Mt Eden, Tennyson, Fairway Park, and the Southland area sit in the path of marine air coming through the gap, so most summer afternoons stay in the 70s and the cooling load is light. The Hayward Hills above the CSU East Bay campus climb out of that fog more often, run several degrees warmer, and the houses up there actually use their air conditioning. Same ZIP map, two different service calendars.

The housing tells the same story. The flats are mostly 1950s and 60s tract construction in 94541, 94544, and 94545, with furnaces in hall closets and garages, and a fair number of original wall furnaces still working in the older blocks. The hills in 94542 run newer, 1980s through the 2000s, with central AC and bigger two-story loads. So in the flats we fix heat, and in the hills we fix heat and cooling both.

We are based in San Ramon, about 20 to 25 minutes out on 580 and 238, working seven days a week. The diagnostic is $75 and it comes off the bill when you book the repair. Every quote is written and itemized before work starts. EPA Section 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642.

Furnace work carries the flats

A 1960s Hayward tract house has usually been through two or three furnaces by now, and the current one is often 20 to 30 years old itself. The faults are predictable: igniters, flame sensors, inducer motors, and pressure switches tripped by a plugged condensate line. We carry the common parts and most furnace repairs close in one visit. On anything past 25 years we check the heat exchanger carefully, because a crack is the one fault that ends the conversation about repairing.

The older blocks still have wall furnaces, and we service those too. When one finally dies, we usually walk the owner through two paths: a like-for-like wall unit, or a ductless heat pump head in the same living space that heats better, adds cooling, and stops scorching the wall above the grille. The right answer depends on the house and the budget, and we price both in writing.

The hills run warmer, and the AC shows it

Above the campus the marine layer burns off earlier and the afternoons bite harder, so the 94542 calls look like Tri-Valley calls: failed capacitors, seized contactors, low charge from a slow leak, and condensers from the 90s that are simply done. Two-story homes up there often cool unevenly, and the fix is sometimes airflow and balancing rather than bigger equipment. We diagnose before we quote, which is what the $75 diagnostic is for.

Hillside lots add access questions on replacements: where the condenser sits, how the line set routes, what the slope does to the pad. We settle all of that at the estimate so install day has no surprises.

Heat pumps fit this climate almost perfectly

A marine-moderated climate with mild winters and light cooling needs is exactly where a heat pump does its best work, and most Hayward replacements we quote now include one as an option next to the gas furnace. Hayward is in Ava Community Energy territory, and we work with Ava, BayREN, and PG&E programs plus manufacturer instant rebates. Amounts and funding move by cycle, so we confirm what is actually paying when we write your estimate, not before.

We are a Daikin authorized servicer with factory training and have completed Mitsubishi Electric factory courses, so the inverter equipment we install is equipment we can also diagnose at the board level. See HVAC installation for how a replacement runs.

Common questions, Hayward.

Can you replace an old wall furnace in a Hayward tract home?

Yes. We repair wall furnaces while parts make sense, and when one is done we quote two paths in writing: a new wall unit, or a ductless heat pump head that heats better and adds cooling. Plenty of the older blocks in 94541 and 94544 still run wall furnaces, so this is regular work for us.

Do homes in Hayward really need air conditioning?

In the flats, often not, since the marine air keeps most afternoons in the 70s. In the Hayward Hills above the campus it is warmer and AC gets real use. If you are replacing a furnace anyway, a heat pump adds cooling for the hot stretches and smoke days without a separate system.

How much is a service call, and are you licensed?

The diagnostic is $75 and we waive it when you book the repair with us. You get a written, itemized quote before any work starts. We are EPA Section 608 Universal certified and CSLB licensed under #1136642.
