San Carlos gives me two different Z-Line pockets. The blocks circling Laurel Street's restaurant row are older homes remodeled one kitchen at a time, and a lot of those owners want their own kitchen to look like the dining room a few blocks over, so a Z-Line range or hood goes in during the update. Up in Devonshire and White Oaks, newer builds and larger remodels run the same brand at a bigger scale, sometimes with a full hood and dishwasher package to match.
The San Carlos call I get most is a pro range that used to fire clean and now clicks without spark, which is the ignitor module and its harness wearing out around the three to five year mark. What we close on the truck.
- Pro range ignitor module and harness. Click with no spark, or a burner that lights slow and uneven. The ignitor module and the wiring harness feeding it wear together on the pro ranges, usually three to five years in. I swap both as a set since a harness that's already stressed will just take out the new module.
- Hood capacitive touch-pad. Owners report a dead blower, but the blower is almost always fine. Grease works into the seam around the touch pad and the speed buttons start dropping or double-tapping. I clean and reseal the pad first and only replace the control board if the sensors bench-test dead underneath.
- Dual-fuel cool-down fan running long. On early production dual-fuel ranges, the thermistor that should shut the convection fan off after the oven cools was mounted in the wrong spot, so the fan keeps running well past shutoff. The fix is a relocation bracket, and I check the unit's build date against Z-Line's own bulletin before I bill for the part.

San Carlos sits inside our Peninsula technician Sam's regular zone, along with Belmont and Redwood City right next door. He's usually already working somewhere close, so a San Carlos call isn't waiting on a drive across the bridge. We're not a Z-Line factory dealer, we're an independent shop. If your range is newer and might still be under the manufacturer's warranty, say so before the visit and we'll help you figure out whether that's the better route.
