Portola Valley's custom homes off Alpine Road and Portola Road tend to run Sub-Zero, Wolf, or Thermador in the main kitchen, and Z-Line turns up in the range nobody wanted to spend Wolf money on, often a ranch-property outbuilding or a lower level built for guests. Those units sit unused between stretches and then take a hard run when the property hosts, and the infrared broiler takes the brunt of that cycle. The ignitor and the upper thermocouple are usually both gone together by the time the broiler won't fire while the oven still bakes.
On the mid-century houses in the Ladera-adjacent pockets, the second kitchen sometimes predates the main remodel and still runs an older Z-Line range the owners kept on purpose. One visit can often cover that Z-Line unit and the built-in brand in the main house. The Z-Line hood over the secondary range brings its own recurring call, the speed buttons going intermittent once grease works into the touch-pad seam while the blower itself keeps working fine. I clean and re-seal the pad first, carry the broiler kit, and bench-test the gas valve micro-switch on site.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Broiler ignitor and thermocouple replacement. Pro and Autograph 36 and 48 inch. After a hosting stretch pushes the infrared broiler hard, the ignitor and the upper thermocouple tend to fail as a pair. I swap both and verify the micro-switch before closing it up.
- Hood touch-pad and control board. The speed buttons go intermittent once grease works past the touch-pad seam. I clean and re-seal first and only replace the board if the sensors test dead underneath. The blower rarely needs anything.
- Dual-fuel cool-down fan fix. A thermistor placement issue from early production leaves the cool-down fan running long after shutoff. Fix is a relocation bracket, and I check the unit against Z-Line's warranty terms before charging for it.
- Burner spark and re-light service. A deep clean before an event tends to flood the burner wells and knock out the spark module or the igniter electrodes. I run a continuity check first so I only replace the part that's actually bad.

How fast can you reach Portola Valley?
We route Portola Valley with Hillsborough and Woodside on Peninsula days, two to three a week. From San Ramon that's about an hour, south on I-680 and across on CA-92 or I-280. Booked windows are confirmed in writing. -
We kept an older Z-Line range in the second kitchen and have Wolf in the main house. Do you service both?
Yes. I'm an authorized Z-Line servicer and I also cover the major built-in brands, so a single visit handles both kitchens. You get a written quote for each before I touch anything. -
Do you do Z-Line warranty work?
Yes, Manufacturer-Authorized. We file claims directly with Z-Line. In warranty we handle the paperwork. Out of warranty the $75 diagnostic applies and is waived with the repair.
