York in Mountain View

York heating and cooling in Mountain View.

Mountain View is a real mix. You have the older bungalows and cottages in Old Mountain View, the mid-century tracts, and a stretch of Eichler homes around the Monta Loma and Cuesta Park areas. Those Eichlers were built with radiant slab heat and flat roofs and no attic, which means when an owner adds forced air or AC, it is usually a ducted retrofit or a ductless mini-split, sometimes paired with a York furnace squeezed into a closet.

The climate here is bay-moderated and mild, so I get more heating calls than cooling ones. The bungalows often run an older single-stage York in the garage, and the failures tend to be the simple, affordable ones. On the retrofit side I see York equipment paired with newer condensers where the original system was never sized for cooling.

We run HVAC through Bay Area HVAC Service out of San Ramon. I am EPA 608 Universal certified, the company carries CSLB #1136642, and every job comes with a written quote and the $75 diagnostic waived on repair.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Flame sensor on closet-mounted furnaces. In Mountain View bungalows and Eichler retrofits the York furnace often lives in a tight closet, and the flame sensor fouls over a few seasons. The burner lights then cuts out. I pull and clean the rod, check the microamp reading, and it holds steady again.
  • Ignitor cracking in retrofit installs. Where a York furnace was added to an Eichler or older home without much airflow margin, the hot surface ignitor runs hot and fails early. No ignition after the inducer spins up. I replace the ignitor with the correct part and verify the board's timing.
  • Control board faults from add-on AC. When cooling was retrofitted onto an older York heating-only setup, the control board sometimes shows faults from the added load or wiring. I read the code, confirm the board outputs to the blower and inducer, and replace it only when the board itself has failed.

FAQ

York in Mountain View questions, answered.

  • How long does it take you to reach Mountain View from San Ramon?
From San Ramon I take 680 to 880 or 280 down the Peninsula. Mountain View sits next to Los Altos, Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto, so it is about 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. When I have other South Bay or Peninsula stops I can group your visit in.
  • My home is an Eichler with no ducts. Can you still help?
Yes. Eichlers without attics usually take a ductless mini-split or a carefully planned ducted retrofit. I look at the slab radiant setup and the layout, then give you honest options in writing rather than forcing a one-size system.
  • Are repairs on an older York furnace worth it?
Often yes. The common failures here, flame sensor and ignitor, are cheap parts. I tell you straight when a repair makes sense versus when the furnace is too far gone to keep spending on.
