York in Castro Valley
York heating and cooling in Castro Valley.
Castro Valley sits in the hills between the bay and the inland heat, so it gets warm summers and cool winters without the extremes of the deep inland towns. A lot of the homes are 60s and 70s ranches with the original ducting and a York furnace in the garage or a hall closet. These run reliably for years, which is exactly why a worn flame sensor or ignitor catches people by surprise.
Up the canyon and toward the newer developments the systems are more current, but the bread-and-butter call here is an aging York furnace that needs a common part. York is mid-market and the parts are easy to get, so most of these jobs are one visit and I stock the usual pieces on the van.
HVAC runs through Bay Area HVAC Service, our division. EPA 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642, seven days. The $75 diagnostic is waived with the repair and every quote is in writing first.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Flame sensor lights then drops out. The classic Castro Valley call on an older York furnace. The burner lights, runs a few seconds, then shuts off because the oxidized sensor cannot prove flame. I clean or replace it and check the flame current so it holds.
- Hot surface ignitor cracked. Decades of cycling make the York ignitor brittle until it cracks and stops glowing, so the furnace will not light. I carry the matching ignitor for the common York models, usually a same-visit fix.
- Blower not starting on the control board. On older York furnaces the board relay that runs the blower can fail, so the burner lights but no warm air moves. I test the board and the limit switch first before recommending a replacement.

FAQ
York in Castro Valley questions, answered.
-
How long is the drive to Castro Valley from San Ramon
It is about 25 to 35 minutes from our San Ramon base down 580. We route Castro Valley with Hayward, San Leandro, and Dublin calls, so it is an easy one to schedule, often same or next day. -
My furnace is from the 70s, is it worth repairing
Often yes. York parts are easy to source and these older units are well built, so a flame sensor or ignitor repair is usually cheaper than replacing. I will tell you straight if the math says replace instead. -
Is the diagnostic charged separately
It is $75 and waived when you go ahead with the repair. You get a written quote before any work begins.
