Williams in San Jose
Williams heating and cooling in San Jose.
San Jose's older neighborhoods, Naglee Park, Willow Glen, and the Rose Garden, have a large stock of 1920s through 1950s homes that ran a single Williams wall or floor furnace. Many still do, especially the smaller bungalows that never got central ducts. We service these units across the city.
San Jose sits in a warm inland valley with mild but cool winters, so the heating load is moderate and the Williams failures here are mostly age-driven, worn pilots and tired gas valves. A clean repair usually returns these units to several more years of good service.
With San Jose's heavy ADU and garage-conversion activity, a wall furnace is often the simplest heat for a unit with no room for ducts. We install the correct Williams model sized to the space rather than oversizing it for a small room.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Standing pilot will not stay lit. On the older Williams wall units common in Naglee Park and Willow Glen, a clogged pilot orifice and aged thermocouple are the usual culprits. I clean the orifice, confirm a steady blue pilot wrapping the thermocouple tip, and replace the thermocouple when the millivolt reading is low.
- Gas valve failure. After decades of cycling the Williams gas valve no longer opens reliably on a call for heat. I verify the thermostat and limit circuit are passing power, test the valve coil and body, and replace it with the correct Williams-spec valve set to proper manifold pressure.
- Floor furnace burner and well fouling. San Jose's older floor furnaces collect dust and debris in the grille well, which fouls the pilot and burner. I pull the unit, clean the well and burner ports, replace a weak thermocouple, and verify the burner lights evenly without delay or flare.

FAQ
Williams in San Jose questions, answered.
-
San Jose is a good distance from San Ramon, do you still come out?
Yes. Bay Area HVAC Service covers San Jose and the South Bay regularly. From San Ramon I take 680 south, usually 45 to 60 minutes depending on the Sunol grade. I batch San Jose with Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino calls so the drive is efficient and your window is real. -
My bungalow has no ducts, is a wall furnace still reasonable?
For a lot of San Jose's older homes, yes. A correctly sized Williams unit heats the central space without ductwork cost. If you want even whole-house heat in a larger home I will discuss ductless options honestly, but a wall furnace is a fair fit for many of these houses. -
What is the diagnostic charge?
The diagnostic is $75 and I waive it with the repair. You get a written quote first. Repairs are warranted 1 year, and a new Williams install carries 10 year parts and 10 year labor.
