Alameda packs a lot of food service onto one island. Park Street and Webster Street run full-service restaurants back to back, and the old naval base at Alameda Point now holds breweries, distilleries, and their tasting-room kitchens. A fair number of those kitchens run Traulsen reach-ins because the cabinets take abuse that lighter lines cannot. When a G-Series or an RHT two-section starts drifting warm during a Friday dinner rush, we come out from San Ramon through the Posey Tube or over the Park Street Bridge and get eyes on it the same day when the schedule allows.
Traulsen builds heavier than most reach-in brands, which is why hospitals and busy kitchens spec them, but the weak points are still specific. On newer cabinets the INTELA-TRAUL controller logs fault codes, and I read those before touching a gauge set. Half the misdiagnosed Traulsens I see got a compressor quoted when the code pointed at a sensor or a fan circuit. On remote models the condensing unit can sit on a roof across the building, so a warm box in an Alameda Point warehouse kitchen sometimes traces to a failed unit thirty feet from the cabinet, and we walk the whole circuit before opening anything.

- INTELA-TRAUL controller fault codes and sensor drift. Newer Traulsen reach-ins throw specific codes for cabinet probe, evaporator probe, and communication faults. A drifted thermistor makes the cabinet short-cycle or run warm while the compressor tests fine. We pull the code history first, verify probe resistance against the chart, and replace the sensor instead of guessing at sealed-system work. Salt air near the Alameda shoreline is hard on connector pins too, so we check the harness while we are in there.
- Evaporator fan motor failure on top-mount cabinets. Traulsen mounts the refrigeration package on top, and the evaporator fan lives in the airflow path above the door. When the motor bearings go, the top shelf stays cold and the bottom warms up, which crews often blame on the gasket. We test the motor under load, replace it with the correct shaded-pole or ECM unit, and confirm even pull-down through the whole cabinet before we leave.
- Remote condensing unit and contactor problems. Several Alameda Point buildings run remote Traulsen boxes with the condensing unit on the roof or in a back mechanical room. A warm cabinet can mean a burned contactor at the cabinet end, a tripped head-pressure control, or a failed condensing unit far from the box. We trace the full circuit, cabinet to roof, before condemning anything, because swapping parts at the wrong end wastes your money.

Alameda is about 35 to 40 minutes from our San Ramon base, over 580 and through the tube. We route it with Oakland and San Leandro stops, so if we already have a call on that side of the bay we can often stack yours the same trip. Yes. I hold EPA Section 608 Universal certification, which covers recovery and charging on both self-contained and remote commercial systems. Any refrigerant that comes out of a Traulsen we service gets recovered, weighed, and logged. -
