Flame Sensor Carbon Fouling. A dirty flame sensor causes the furnace to light normally and then shut down within a few seconds, often repeating two or three times before the board locks out. The sensor rod accumulates a thin oxide layer that prevents it from passing enough microamp signal to prove flame.
