Oakland is a huge spread of housing stock. You have the 1920s and 1930s flatland bungalows and Victorians, the dense flats, and the steep hillside homes up above Montclair and the Oakland hills. The older homes often had no AC at all and ran a single wall or floor furnace, while the newer remodels and hillside builds run full Rheem and Ruud split systems and heat pumps.

Most of Oakland is bay-moderated, so cooling is a comfort add rather than a survival need, but the hills get warmer and a lot of those homes have added AC. We service the whole Rheem line, the gas furnaces, the condensers, and the heat pumps that fit Oakland's all-electric retrofit push.

The old bungalows are where the real work is. Many never had ducts, so a Rheem system there is usually ductless or a careful retrofit into tight crawlspaces and small attics, and I plan those around the house, not the other way around.

Rheem ductless head leak and drain fault in older bungalows. In the flatland bungalows the Rheem ductless wall heads clog the condensate drain and drip, or the line set develops a slow leak. I clear or reslope the drain, find the leak, and recharge to the correct weight, since I am EPA 608 certified to handle the refrigerant properly.
Rheem furnace heat exchanger and igniter on hillside homes. The hillside Rheem and Ruud furnaces run long in winter and the igniter fails or the heat exchanger needs inspection for cracking. I replace the igniter, run a combustion check, and inspect the exchanger so the system is both working and safe.
Rheem heat pump retrofit, low charge and airflow problems. On all-electric retrofits the Rheem heat pump comes up short on heating because of undersized return air or a charge that drifted. I check static pressure, correct the airflow, and verify the charge so the heat pump actually keeps up on a cold Oakland morning.
