Palo Alto's commercial work runs along University Avenue and California Avenue. Those rooms lean on Hoshizaki and Manitowoc for ice and cocktail programs, and where there is a serious bar program behind that, the back-bar refrigeration and beer dispensing is usually Perlick. There is less bar density here than in an Oakland bar district, so most of our Perlick calls are bar-forward restaurants and wine-and-cocktail spots rather than dedicated taprooms.
When the call comes in, it usually lands on one of two faults. A beer dispensing system pouring warm with the glycol chiller running fine, which is trunk-line insulation or drifted glycol on the run to the tower. Or a back-bar undercounter icing its evaporator after a stretched door gasket lets warm air in during service. We carry the OEM gaskets and the glycol test kit on the truck so a single visit usually closes it.
Common repairs we do

- Beer warm at the tap, chiller running normal. Glycol drift or trunk-line insulation that soaked up condensate. Test glycol, flush, re-insulate the supply leg. Single visit when the chiller itself is healthy.
- Undercounter back-bar evaporator iced. Door gasket stretched from rush propping. OEM gasket swap in 24 or 36 inch, defrost, verify temp pulldown.
- Glass washer cold rinse or spotting. On the back-bar glass washers it is usually the rinse-aid pump or the rinse-booster element. Scale on the booster element is the common failure where the local water runs hard.
- Back-bar door cylinder and hinge wear. We stock the cylinders and hinge cartridges and rebuild the door when the panel is good rather than replace.
