Head icing up in the marine layer. Albany holds the same damp, cool air as Berkeley most of the year, and a low-load head can ice over in it. I check the room thermistor, the coil sensor, and the charge first, since a bad sensor or a low charge is more common than a failed compressor.
Wall furnace bungalow converted to ductless, one head underperforms. A lot of Albany bungalows kept the old wall furnace as backup and added M-Series heads for the main living space. When one head, often in a converted ADU or basement unit, runs weak, I check the line length charge correction and the branch wiring, since these runs often snake through tight crawl spaces to reach a second unit.
Condensate drip in a basement or ADU install. Basement and ADU installs on Albany's small lots often have short, awkward drain runs with little slope to work with. A drip or a float-switch shutdown usually means the line is clogged or too flat. I clear it, improve the slope where I can, and verify the float.
