I inspect fin condition and coil integrity as part of every Pacifica visit.
Outdoor cabinet and screw corrosion loosening panels. The sheet metal cabinet and mounting screws on a coastal-side Lennox condenser rust through faster than on the same unit in Linda Mar Valley, and a loose or corroded panel can let moisture into the electrical compartment. I check cabinet integrity and fastener condition, not just refrigerant and airflow.
Contactor and disconnect corrosion inside the outdoor unit. Salt fog works its way into the outdoor disconnect and the contactor terminals over the years, and corroded contacts create resistance that overheats the connection or drops the circuit intermittently. I clean or replace corroded terminals and contactors rather than just clearing a code and moving on.
