Kenmore in South San Francisco

Kenmore in South San Francisco kitchens.

The hillside sign above South San Francisco still reads The Industrial City, and that history is still visible in the older homes near Old Town and Sunshine Gardens, where a lot of Kenmore refrigerators from the Sears years are still running in kitchens and garages. Those are almost always Whirlpool-built, model prefix 106. Newer construction closer to the biotech corridor along Oyster Point tends to have replaced units, often an LG-built Kenmore Elite in the 795 range.

We also cover Brisbane from this side of the city, so a call near the Bayshore border or up toward the Brisbane hills is a normal stop, not a special trip.

ADRIUM Service Solutions runs out of San Ramon, and for South San Francisco we route through the technician we keep stationed on the Peninsula, in San Mateo County. Owner Andrew Kuznetsov, EPA 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642. Diagnostic is $99, waived if you book the repair, quotes are written, and we're out here 7 days a week.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Laundry

How to spot a bad washer drain pump.

LG and Samsung washer drain pumps side by side. When a washer will not drain or hums at the end of a cycle, this small pump is the usual suspect, and the two brands fail in different ways.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Water inlet valve failing and flooding the ice maker. When a Kenmore ice maker stops making cubes and instead leaves a puddle in the bin, the water inlet valve is usually stuck partway open rather than the ice maker module itself. I check line pressure and valve solenoid resistance before replacing anything, because swapping the module first is the expensive way to guess wrong.
  • Evaporator fan icing over and going silent. A freezer that goes from cold to slowly warm, with no fan noise at all, points to an evaporator fan that's seized under a layer of frost. Usually a failing door gasket or a clogged defrost drain let humid air in first, so I check both while I'm in there rather than just swapping the fan and sending you off to fail again in six months.
  • Main control board glitching on later Whirlpool-built units. South San Francisco has a mix of older and newer housing stock, and on the newer main-board Kenmores I get calls where lights flicker, the compressor short cycles, and the ice maker runs at random. That pattern usually traces to failing relay contacts on the board itself, which I confirm by checking board outputs under load before ordering the part.

FAQ

Kenmore in South San Francisco questions, answered.

  • We're not close to San Ramon. How fast can you actually respond in South San Francisco?
It's a real distance, so I'm not going to promise same-day just because you called. What we do instead is keep a technician living on the Peninsula, in San Mateo County, who handles South San Francisco, Brisbane, and the surrounding cities without the long haul from our home base.
  • What's the model number prefix system you keep mentioning?
It's the first three digits on the data plate inside the fridge. 106 means Whirlpool built the actual machine, 795 means LG, 253 means Frigidaire. Kenmore never manufactured refrigerators itself, it just put its name on whoever built that generation, so the prefix is the only way to know what you actually own.
  • Is it hard to find parts for an old Sears-era Kenmore from South San Francisco's original neighborhoods?
Not usually. The Whirlpool-built 106 series was made in huge numbers for decades, so compressors, relays, and control boards are still easy to source. What takes a little longer sometimes is a specific ice maker assembly on an older model, and I'll tell you upfront if that's the case rather than have you wait without knowing.
