Hoshizaki in Union City
Hoshizaki commercial service.
Union City is one of the closer runs on my map, so Hoshizaki work here tends to get scheduled fast. The dining strip around Union Landing and the taquerias and boba shops along Alvarado-Niles Road run KM cubers hard, and a fair number of them sit in cramped back rooms where airflow was an afterthought. On the home side, the older tract housing here is being remodeled and split, and I keep finding compact ice makers and undercounter refrigeration going into rental units and backyard ADUs.
Water in Union City comes from ACWD, which blends Delta supply, local groundwater, and Hetch Hetchy, and the hardness moves around depending on the mix that season. That variability is rough on a KM machine because the owner descales on a fixed schedule while the scale load changes underneath them. When a Hoshizaki here is making 20 percent less than its rated daily ice, I look at the evaporator plate first, every time.
ADRIUM Service Solutions is owned and run by me, Andrew Kuznetsov, out of San Ramon. EPA Section 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642, working 7 days. Diagnostics are $75, waived when we do the repair, and quotes are always in writing. Repairs are covered for 1 year; installs carry 10-year parts and 10-year labor.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Beep-code lockout after failed harvests. A KM board that hears three bad harvest attempts shuts the machine down and beeps at you. Owners read that as a board failure, but on ACWD water the root cause is almost always mineral buildup slowing the ice release. I decode the beep pattern, descale the plate, and confirm the thermistor is reading the harvest correctly instead of selling you a control board you did not need.
- Hot gas valve not seating, slow freeze and low production. The hot gas valve on a KM cuber opens for harvest and must close tight for freeze. When it leaks by, hot gas bleeds into the evaporator during freeze, cycle times climb, and daily output sags without any obvious error. Diagnosing it means reading temperatures and pressures across the cycle, which is exactly the sealed-system work my EPA 608 Universal certification covers. If the valve is bad we replace it and recover refrigerant properly.
- High pressure shutdown from a packed condenser. Two beeps from the board means high pressure, and in Union City back-of-house closets and garage installs the usual cause is a condenser coil packed with grease film and dust. The machine trips on hot afternoons and runs fine at night, which drives owners crazy. I clean the coil correctly, check the fan motor, and measure head pressure afterward so we know the shutdowns are actually gone.

FAQ
Hoshizaki in Union City questions, answered.
-
How far is Union City from your San Ramon base?
About 30 to 35 minutes. I usually take I-680 to CA-84 through Niles Canyon and come in on the Fremont side. Union City sits in the same routing cluster as Fremont, Newark, and Hayward, and I am in that corridor several days a week, so a down ice machine here rarely waits long. -
My Hoshizaki stopped and is beeping. What does that mean?
The KM control board uses beep counts as error codes: one beep points at a harvest problem at the evaporator, two beeps means high pressure, and so on. Do not keep resetting it, because each restart on a real fault stresses the compressor. Note the beep count, shut it off, and tell me the count when you call. It usually tells me what parts to bring. -
Should I put a water filter ahead of my machine on Union City water?
In most cases yes. Because ACWD blends its sources, hardness swings through the year, and a scale-inhibiting cartridge filter smooths that out and stretches the time between descales. I size the filter to the machine's flow rating and show you the replacement schedule. As for any utility or manufacturer programs on equipment, we confirm what is actually paying at estimate time rather than quoting numbers that may have lapsed.
