Heil in El Sobrante

Heil heating and cooling in El Sobrante.

Roughly three quarters of El Sobrante's homes were built between 1940 and 1979, a mix of old ranchettes, later subdivisions and apartment and condo buildings, and homes climb into the hills above San Pablo Dam Road. A Heil QuietComfort furnace in one of those houses is a single-stage burner on the Carrier platform. As it ages, its safety switches start to trip: the rollout switch, the limit switch and the pressure switch.

Each one points to a different problem, and resetting a switch without finding the cause is how a small fault becomes a dangerous one. El Sobrante is served by our technician, who is based in Benicia. The visit starts with a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and a written quote before any work. ADRIUM holds EPA 608 Universal certification for the refrigerant side of heat pump and AC repairs. CSLB #1136642.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Rollout switch tripped on a QuietComfort furnace. A rollout switch trips when flame spills out of the burner area, which can mean a blocked vent, a cracked heat exchanger or a dirty burner. We never just reset it. We inspect the burners, the heat exchanger and the vent, test for carbon monoxide, and fix the cause before the furnace goes back into service.
  • Igniter glows but the burner never lights. If the igniter is hot and nothing lights, the gas valve, the board output or the gas supply is next in line. We measure voltage to the valve and gas pressure at the inlet and outlet, then replace the valve or board that is at fault.
  • Short burner runs from a carbon-coated flame sensor. Carbon builds on the flame sensor rod over the seasons, and the board loses the flame signal. The burner lights, runs a few seconds and shuts off. We clean the rod, check its ground and the flame signal, and replace it if it is cracked.

FAQ

Heil in El Sobrante questions, answered.

  • We smell gas for a moment when our Heil furnace starts. Should we worry?
A faint smell right at ignition can happen, but a smell that lingers is not normal. If it lingers, leave the house and call your gas company from outside. For a brief smell at startup, we check the gas valve, the burners and the ignition timing.
  • We just bought an older El Sobrante house with a Heil furnace. Can you check it over?
Yes. We inspect the burners, heat exchanger, venting, safety switches and airflow, and test for carbon monoxide. You get a written list of what is in good shape and what needs work, with a quote for any repairs.
  • Is a Heil heat pump practical for a hillside home in El Sobrante?
Often it is. A heat pump needs a level pad with room around it, so on a slope we look at where the outdoor unit can sit and how the line set reaches the air handler. We also check the electrical service and the ducts before recommending one.
