Heil in Concord
Heil heating and cooling in Concord.
Concord sits in the interior Diablo Valley, and summers here are genuinely hot. That matters for Heil equipment because the AC and heat-pump condensers run long cycles from June through September, and the older mid-century ranch tracts along Ygnacio Valley Road and off Monument Boulevard are full of ducted Heil or ICP-badged systems installed in the 80s and 90s. Those units have been working hard for decades. The ones that are still running usually have one or two parts that are just about done.
Heil is built on the Carrier ICP platform, so diagnosing it is not a guessing game. We pull fault codes from the control board first, then verify the actual component before quoting anything. On furnaces we check the hot surface igniter with a meter, measure flame-sensor microamps under load, and watch the inducer come up to speed before we open the gas valve. On condensers we check capacitor microfarads and contact pitting on the contactor while the unit is running, because a marginal cap will pass a cold bench test and fail at 95 degrees on a Tuesday afternoon in Concord.
Bay Area HVAC Service is our HVAC division, based in San Ramon, roughly 20 minutes from Concord down 680. We are EPA Section 608 Universal certified and hold CSLB license 1136642. Diagnostic is $75, and we credit that back in full if you go ahead with the repair on the same visit. You get a written quote before we touch anything.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Hot Surface Igniter Failure on Heil Gas Furnaces. The silicon nitride igniters on ICP-platform furnaces are brittle and typically last 5 to 8 years. When one cracks, the furnace calls for heat, the inducer starts, but the burner never lights. You get repeated short-cycle attempts and eventually a lockout fault, usually a code 4 or 5 on the board depending on the control generation. We confirm with a resistance check, swap in the correct ICP igniter, and verify flame establishment through at least two full heat cycles before we leave.
- Flame Sensor Carbon Buildup Causing Short Cycling. A fouled flame sensor reads low microamps and tells the board the burner is not lit even when it is. The furnace lights, runs for a few seconds, shuts off, and tries again two or three more times before locking out. On Concord houses that have been running the same furnace for 15-plus years this is one of the more common calls we get in late fall, right when people first turn the heat on after a long idle. We clean the sensor rod, retest microamp draw under a live flame, and check the board for any related fault history.
- Capacitor and Contactor Wear on Heil AC Condensers. Run capacitors on the Heil condenser degrade faster when the unit runs long daily cycles in summer heat. A weak capacitor causes the compressor to draw high starting amps, which accelerates contactor pitting. The symptom is usually the system running but not cooling well, or the compressor humming and tripping on thermal overload. We test capacitance live and inspect the contactor face while the unit is under load. Both parts are standard Carrier-family components we carry on the truck, so replacement is same-visit.

FAQ
Heil in Concord questions, answered.
-
Do you actually come out to Concord, or is that too far from San Ramon?
Concord is a regular part of our service area. San Ramon is down I-680, and we run calls in the Diablo Valley corridor every week. No extra travel charge for Concord. -
My Heil system is pretty old. Is it worth repairing, or should I look at replacing it?
Depends on what it needs. A capacitor or igniter on a 15-year-old unit that is otherwise clean and properly sized for the house is usually worth fixing. If the heat exchanger is cracked or the compressor is going, that is a different conversation. We give you the repair cost in writing and will tell you honestly what the equipment's condition looks like so you can decide. We do not push replacements on equipment that has useful life left. -
What does the $75 diagnostic actually include, and what kind of warranty do I get on the repair?
The $75 covers the full diagnostic: fault code pull, component testing, visual inspection of the heat exchanger or condenser depending on what you called about, and a written quote for whatever we find. If you approve the repair that same visit, the $75 comes off the bill. Repairs carry a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. If you are looking at a new installation instead, those come with 10 years on parts and 10 years on labor.
