GE in Clayton

GE in Clayton kitchens.

Clayton sits at the foot of Mount Diablo, next to Concord, and its summers are hot and dry. A GE refrigerator in a warm kitchen or a hot garage runs longer cycles in July and August. The parts that carry that extra load, the condenser fan and the inverter board, are also the parts that most often fail on a GE fridge.

The town grew in stages: Dana Hills and Clayton Wood in 1987, and larger homes in Peacock Creek from 1996. A Profile French-door and a Monogram built-in get the same first step: a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, then a written quote before any work starts. Clayton is covered by our technician based in Benicia.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Fridge falling behind on the hottest afternoons. A condenser fan that slows or stops lets heat build around the compressor, and the fridge loses ground as the day warms up. We check the fan motor, clean the condenser, and read what the inverter board is sending to the compressor. On many GE models the board fails before the compressor does.
  • Monogram dual-fuel range with a fan relay fault. Monogram dual-fuel ranges have a known control-board fault on the relay that drives the fan. A fan that stops, or one that will not shut off, points us to that board. We test the relay output, replace the board if the relay has failed, and check the fan motor while the panel is open, since a seized motor can take a relay with it.
  • Ice maker slowing down on Delta water. Clayton gets treated Delta water from the Contra Costa Water District, drawn through the Contra Costa Canal and Los Vaqueros Reservoir. If a GE ice maker slows or turns out small cubes, we check the inlet valve screen and the fill tube for deposits and test the valve coil before replacing the ice maker.

FAQ

GE in Clayton questions, answered.

  • Does Clayton's summer heat wear out a GE fridge?
It adds hours. Heat makes the fridge run longer, which puts more time on the condenser fan and the compressor. Keep the grille at the bottom clear and leave space at the back. If the fridge lives in a garage, check the manual for the room temperatures it is rated for.
  • Our Peacock Creek house has a Monogram built-in. Do you work on those?
Yes. Monogram built-in refrigerators and wine columns use parts sourced straight from GE. Fans and boards are handled on site. A door gasket can take two weeks to arrive, so we order it at the diagnosis. If the sealed system is involved, our technician is EPA 608 Type I certified.
  • Our Dana Hills kitchen has a ten-year-old GE Profile fridge. Worth fixing?
Usually, yes. At that age a Profile is still worth a fan, board or defrost repair, and the parts are easy to get. We write up the cost first so you can set it against the price of a new fridge.
