Cooper&Hunter in Palo Alto
Cooper&Hunter heating and cooling in Palo Alto.
Palo Alto has historic Craftsman and Spanish homes near downtown and rows of Eichlers in the south of town, and many of both have no ducts that suit a modern system. Cooper&Hunter ductless heads turn up as the budget cooling retrofit in these homes, often a single head in a primary bedroom or a home office.
We service Cooper&Hunter across Palo Alto. The climate is mild and Peninsula-moderated, so cooling load is modest, but residents run these year round for the heat-pump warmth in the cool season. Cooper&Hunter is fine when set up right, and the honest watch-item is parts lead time versus the premium ductless lines, which I flag on any repair.
HVAC at ADRIUM runs through Bay Area HVAC Service. I am EPA 608 Universal certified, the $75 diagnostic is waived with the repair, you get a written quote, and we work 7 days.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Flare fitting leak behind the indoor head. On Palo Alto installs the flare joints, often tucked behind the head or in a wall chase, are the common Cooper&Hunter leak point. A slow loss of charge shows as a head that no longer reaches setpoint. We detect it, re-flare, evacuate, and recharge by weight.
- Remote and receiver communication loss. The infrared receiver in the indoor head fails and the unit stops taking remote commands, even though it runs. We test the receiver board and the remote separately so we replace only the part that failed rather than the whole head.
- Coil thermistor fault causing short-cycling. The coil sensor drifts out of range and the head short-cycles or shows a sensor error. It is an inexpensive part and a quick swap once it is confirmed with a meter, and it is a far more common cause of erratic running than a refrigerant problem.

FAQ
Cooper&Hunter in Palo Alto questions, answered.
-
Do you really cover Palo Alto from San Ramon?
Yes. Palo Alto is on our Peninsula route, and we group it with Los Altos, Atherton, and nearby work so the trip stays efficient. There is no travel surcharge, just our flat diagnostic. -
Can a Cooper&Hunter go into my Eichler without ruining the look?
It can be done cleanly. A slim wall head or a ceiling cassette and a tidy outdoor unit keep an Eichler's lines intact, and the lineset routes through the wall rather than across the flat roof. We plan the routing before we quote. -
My head runs but the remote does nothing. Is the whole unit bad?
Usually not. If the head runs when you press buttons on its own panel but ignores the remote, it is the infrared receiver or the remote itself, not the compressor or the system. That is a small repair.
