Comfortmaker in Pinole

Comfortmaker heating and cooling in Pinole.

Much of Pinole's housing went up in the postwar boom of the 1940s through the 1960s. Pinole on the Hill is mostly midsize homes, Pinole Valley runs to larger houses with three bedrooms and up, and Old Town keeps its older building stock. When the furnace sits in a hall closet near the bedrooms, how loud it runs matters.

That is where Comfortmaker's SoftSound furnaces earn the name, with a blower designed to run quieter. The rest of the furnace is standard Carrier-family hardware: hot-surface igniter, flame sensor, inducer, pressure switch and gas valve. Pinole calls are handled by our technician based in Benicia, and the $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Cracked hot-surface igniter on a closet furnace. The igniter is brittle, and years of heating up and cooling down crack it. The inducer runs, the igniter never glows and the board locks out after a few tries. We measure the igniter's resistance, replace it with the correct part for the model, and run the furnace through several starts.
  • Gas valve not opening after the igniter glows. If the igniter glows but no flame follows, the gas valve or its signal from the board is the next suspect. We check voltage at the valve during the ignition sequence and gas pressure at the manifold, and replace the valve only when it has power and still does not open.
  • Condenser fan motor giving out. When the outdoor fan stops, the compressor overheats and trips on its internal protector, and the AC cycles on and off with warm air in between. We check the fan motor, its capacitor and the contactor, and replace the failing part with one matched to the Comfortmaker condenser.

FAQ

Comfortmaker in Pinole questions, answered.

  • Our Pinole furnace is in the hall closet next to the bedrooms. Would a SoftSound model be quieter?
Usually, yes. SoftSound furnaces are designed for quieter blower operation, which you notice most in a closet install. Noise also comes from a tight return or a louvered door that whistles, so we check the airflow path too before recommending a new furnace.
  • Is a Comfortmaker furnace worth repairing once it is 15 years old?
Often it is, if the heat exchanger is sound. Igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches and inducers are standard parts, and replacing one costs far less than a new furnace. When the heat exchanger, main board and gas valve are all failing together, we price the replacement side by side.
  • Our Pinole Valley home has the furnace under the floor. Can you service it there?
Yes. A furnace in a crawlspace needs a clear, safe way in, and we check the venting, the gas connection and the filter, which is easy to forget down there. Rodents sometimes nest near under-floor units, so we look at the wiring and duct insulation as well.
