Bryant in Oakland

Bryant heating and cooling in Oakland.

Oakland covers a huge range of housing. The flatlands hold 1920s and 1930s craftsman bungalows and stucco homes, often with old gravity furnaces or wall heaters and no central air. The hills above Montclair and Rockridge have larger homes on steep lots, many added on over the decades, where multi-zone Bryant Evolution systems do the job. We service all of it through Bay Area HVAC Service.

The bungalows often have no ductwork, so Bryant ductless heat pumps are a frequent retrofit, especially as people finally add cooling for the hotter inland days. In the hills, the climate is mild but the homes are big and split-level, which calls for zoning. We keep matched Bryant parts for the Evolution communicating gear those homes run.

We are EPA 608 Universal certified, A2L certified for R-454B, and CSLB licensed. The $75 diagnostic is waived with the repair and you get a written quote first.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Ductless retrofit head and line set faults in flatland bungalows. Old Oakland bungalows with no ducts get Bryant ductless heads. The common failures are a kinked or under-charged line set on a long run, or a head that ices up. I check the line set length against the charge and clear condensate before chasing the board, since a slow leak is usually the real cause.
  • Multi-zone control and damper faults on hill homes. The added-on hill houses run Bryant Evolution with several zones and dampers. When a damper actuator or zone sensor fails, one wing of the house overheats while another stays cold. I test each zone's damper and sensor against the control rather than assuming the air handler is the problem.
  • Old gravity-to-forced-air conversion airflow problems. When a flatland home swaps an old gravity furnace for a Bryant forced-air unit, the old oversized ducts can choke airflow. That trips the furnace on a high-limit. I measure static pressure and temperature rise, and correct duct restrictions so the Bryant unit runs in its design range.

FAQ

Bryant in Oakland questions, answered.

  • How do you route to Oakland from San Ramon?
We come over the hill through the Tri-Valley toward the inner East Bay. Piedmont and Berkeley border Oakland and we often cover all three on the same side of a trip. Oakland is a regular service area and we book it seven days a week.
  • My Oakland bungalow has no ducts and no AC. What are my Bryant options?
A ductless Bryant heat pump is the usual answer. We mount wall or ceiling heads and run line sets without tearing into your plaster for ductwork, and it gives you both heat and cooling. We size the heads room by room and give you a written quote.
  • Can you service a Bryant system that uses R-454B refrigerant?
Yes. We are A2L certified for R-454B and carry the proper recovery and leak detection for that refrigerant class. Newer Bryant equipment shipping with R-454B is fully serviceable by us.
