American Standard in Mountain View

American Standard heating and cooling in Mountain View.

Mountain View has a real split. There are the mid-century Eichlers and ranch homes near Cuesta and the older neighborhoods with no duct space, and there are newer condos and townhomes near downtown and the bayshore. American Standard shows up in both, and the two need very different work.

The Eichlers and slab homes often have no attic and no good place for ducts, so American Standard ductless mini-split heads are the practical retrofit. When one of those heads ices up or leaks at the wall, I service it the same as a ducted system. The bay-moderated climate here is mild, so these systems run light loads but run them constantly, and that steady cycling wears specific parts.

American Standard water heaters in Mountain View garages and closets see soft-to-moderate water, so the failures lean toward gas valves and venting rather than scale. We carry the parts for the common units.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Mini-split indoor head freezing and dripping. On American Standard ductless heads in Eichler and slab-foundation homes, low charge or a dirty blower wheel makes the evaporator ice up, then it drips down the wall when it thaws. We check charge and clean the wheel, and we leak-test the line set at the flare connections where these usually lose refrigerant.
  • Condensate drain backup on closet air handlers. Mountain View's mild damp climate keeps American Standard air handlers producing condensate most of the year, and the closet-mounted units clog at the trap. Water backs up and the float switch shuts the system off. We clear the drain, treat it, and confirm the float switch protects the unit.
  • Water heater gas control valve failure. American Standard gas water heaters in Mountain View hold up well against scale but the gas control valve still fails on units past 8 years, locking out on a fault code. We confirm it is the valve and not the thermocouple, then replace the valve and re-verify the burner and draft.

FAQ

American Standard in Mountain View questions, answered.

  • Is Mountain View too far from your San Ramon shop?
No. Mountain View is a regular stop. We come down 680 through Fremont and route it with Sunnyvale, Los Altos, and Palo Alto calls, so it sits inside our normal Peninsula and South Bay loop.
  • My house has no ducts, can American Standard still cool it?
Yes. For Eichlers and slab homes without ducts we service and install American Standard ductless mini-splits. They mount heads on the wall and run line set instead of ductwork, which is the right answer for these floor plans.
  • Can you tell me what rebates I qualify for?
We confirm what is actually paying at estimate time, because programs change month to month. We will not quote you a number that has since expired. You get the real, current picture in writing.
