Admiral in South San Francisco
Admiral in South San Francisco kitchens.
South San Francisco has the biggest sign in the county carved into Sign Hill, the one that reads "The Industrial City," and the biotech buildings east of 101 get most of the attention these days. But the Admiral calls we get come from the residential side west of the freeway, the older homes around Chestnut Avenue, Winston Manor, and Serra Highlands, plus the rental duplexes near downtown Grand Avenue. These are 20 to 30 year old units, mostly a garage fridge or the original kitchen fridge nobody's replaced.
Admiral parts hunting comes down to the Maytag and Whirlpool cross-reference almost every time, since Admiral was a Maytag brand before the Whirlpool buyout. On a unit this old, the question isn't whether a part exists under the Admiral name, it's whether the Whirlpool-platform equivalent still fits. We check that before anything gets ordered. We cover Brisbane on the same swing north, so that's not an extra trip either.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Cold control thermostat sticking closed. The compressor never cycles off and the fridge runs nonstop, sometimes freezing food on the top shelf. Common on the older capillary-style cold controls in these units. The Maytag-cross replacement is inexpensive and the swap is usually under an hour.
- Freezer drain clogged with ice. Water backs up behind the drain, refreezes, and the fresh-food compartment above it starts running warm on a lot of these top-freezer Admirals. About a 30-minute clear with almost no parts cost, but it comes back if the drain heater underneath has also failed.
- Start relay won't let the compressor start. The compressor clicks and shuts back off instead of running, so the fridge slowly warms through the day. The relay is a small, inexpensive part that cross-references cleanly. If the compressor windings test fine, it's a quick fix.

FAQ
Admiral in South San Francisco questions, answered.
-
Do you work on rental units, or only owner-occupied homes?
Both. A lot of the Admiral calls we get in South City are landlord-owned rentals. We can coordinate scheduling with a property manager, and the $99 diagnostic gets waived once the repair is approved, in writing, before we start. -
Is an old Admiral worth repairing?
Usually, if the sealed system is intact. A cold control, a drain clog, or a relay is a small fix on a fridge that still holds temperature. A dead compressor on a 25-year-old unit is a different conversation, and I'll tell you straight at the $99 diagnostic, which is waived if you move ahead with the repair. -
How do you handle response time in South San Francisco, and do you reach Brisbane from here?
Our Peninsula technician works out of San Mateo, about 15 minutes up 101, so South City and the Brisbane hillside next door both sit in his normal route. We don't promise same-day for every call, but a booked window holds, seven days a week.
