Admiral in San Mateo
Admiral in San Mateo kitchens.
San Mateo is home base for our Peninsula work, so it's the one city on this list where our technician isn't driving in from somewhere else. The Admiral units we see here run from Hillsdale down to the older neighborhoods off 25th Avenue and the restaurant row along B Street, mostly second refrigerators in garages and the original range in a rental that's had the same tenants for a decade.
Admiral is a Maytag-built brand, and Whirlpool owns Maytag now, so the parts we need for a 20 or 30-year-old San Mateo unit almost always cross-reference to a current Whirlpool number even with the Admiral badge long out of production. That's true whether it's a fridge part or a range part, and we confirm the cross before quoting either one.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Electric range bake element burned through. The oven won't heat, or it heats unevenly and the element is visibly cracked or scorched where it's failed. Common in the older rental units near downtown San Mateo. The replacement element cross-references to a generic part that fits most Admiral electric ranges.
- Defrost timer failure in a garage fridge. The freezer side ices over behind the back panel, the fresh food side slowly warms, and the timer is the usual cause. Admiral's own part is long discontinued, but the Whirlpool-platform equivalent fits most of the units we service around here.
- Start relay failing on an older compressor. The compressor clicks like it wants to start and then cuts out, so the fridge never gets cold. The relay is a small, cheap part and cross-references cleanly. We test the compressor windings first so we're not swapping a relay onto a dead compressor.

FAQ
Admiral in San Mateo questions, answered.
-
Since you're based in San Mateo, does that mean faster response here?
Yes. Our Peninsula technician works out of San Mateo, so a San Mateo call doesn't need the drive time a job further out does. We still don't promise same-day for every job, but the wait tends to be shorter here than anywhere else on our list. -
Is it worth repairing an old Admiral range or fridge?
Often, yes. A bake element, a defrost timer, or a relay is inexpensive next to a new unit. Where it stops making sense is a dead compressor or a range control board that's been discontinued outright, and I'll tell you which one you're dealing with at the $99 diagnostic, waived if you approve the repair. -
Can you still get parts for Admiral appliances?
Mostly. Admiral was a Maytag brand, and Maytag parts now run through Whirlpool, so elements, timers, and relays usually cross-reference to a current number. I check by model and serial before we order so we're not guessing.
