  • Recall status check on RG series gas ranges. A batch of Z-Line RG gas ranges was recalled for excess carbon monoxide from the oven burner, and a surprising share of Martinez units I inspect were never brought in for the remedy kit, especially ranges that changed hands with the house. I verify the serial against the factory recall records on every diagnostic. It costs you nothing extra and it is not optional in my book.
  • Oven door drops open or will not stay closed. The door hinge springs on these ranges fatigue, and the first sign is a door that falls the last few inches instead of gliding. Next the gasket stops sealing and preheat times stretch. In the older downtown Martinez homes with settled floors it happens sooner because the range never sat square. New factory hinges and a gasket inspection put it right.
  • Convection fan noise that comes and goes with heat. A convection motor bearing that only rattles when the oven is hot fools a lot of owners into ignoring it. The bearing is expanding into its worn clearance. On Z-Line ovens I replace the motor before the blade meets the shroud, because the second repair is three times the price of the first.
