York in San Carlos

York in San Carlos kitchens.

San Carlos runs from tidy postwar neighborhoods up into the hills west of Alameda de las Pulgas, with Laurel Street's restaurant strip cutting through the flat part of downtown. The residential calls I get here are mostly York furnaces original to homes built in the 1950s through 70s, now on their second or third ignitor and sometimes a replaced board.

The hill neighborhoods above El Camino get warmer summer afternoons than the flats closer to Highway 101, so I see more cooling calls from up there. Down near the flats, older single-stage York furnaces are still common, and the complaint is usually a furnace that lights, runs a minute, then shuts off.

This is Bay Area HVAC Service, our HVAC division. EPA 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642 on file, written quotes on every job, seven days a week. The $99 diagnostic comes off the bill when you have me do the repair.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Furnace lights then shuts off after a minute. This is a flame sensor call almost every time on San Carlos's older single-stage York furnaces. The sensor oxidizes, the furnace loses its flame signal, and it shuts down as a safety measure. I clean or swap the rod and check the microamp reading so it holds through a full cycle.
  • Hillside cooling struggling on hot afternoons. Homes above El Camino catch more late-day sun, and I find York condensers up there working past what a weak capacitor or a partially clogged coil can handle. I test the electrical components and clean the coil so the system isn't fighting itself on the hottest part of the day.
  • Board faults after storm season power blips. San Carlos gets its share of winter power flickers, and a York control board that takes a bad surge can lock out or drop random functions afterward. I check the board and the transformer output before replacing anything, since sometimes a blown fuse on the board is the whole problem.

FAQ

York in San Carlos questions, answered.

  • I'm right by Laurel Street, does that part of downtown get the same response as the neighborhoods
Yes. Downtown San Carlos and the restaurant row area get the same coverage as the residential streets nearby. We don't promise same-day, but a Peninsula-based technician handling this area keeps the drive time down.
  • My furnace is original to the house from the 60s, is it even worth fixing
Often yes. York is a solid mid-market brand and parts like ignitors, flame sensors, and boards are easy to source. I'll give you a straight answer on whether the repair makes sense once I see what's actually failed, not a push toward replacement by default.
  • How fast can someone get out here
We have a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, so San Carlos is a short drive rather than a haul from somewhere else in the Bay Area. Call and I'll give you a real window.
