Summit in Richmond
Summit in Richmond kitchens.
Point Richmond's restored Victorians and the newer Marina Bay townhomes are exactly where Summit units turn up: undercounter beverage centers tucked into wet bar cabinetry, wine cellars in finished basements, and outdoor-rated fridges on covered decks facing the water. The Annex and Hilltop bungalows add a different angle, where property owners converting garages and side structures into ADUs spec a Summit compact all-refrigerator or small range to keep the footprint legal.
The failure pattern we see most in these installs is thermal overload on the compressor. Summit makes freestanding units and front-vent models, and the two are not interchangeable. A freestanding unit built into a tight cabinet with no rear clearance will run hot and short-cycle until the compressor gives out. Coastal proximity at Marina Bay also accelerates corrosion on condenser coils and electrical contacts on any outdoor-rated model left near salt air without periodic cleaning.
We charge $75 to diagnose the unit, and that amount credits directly toward the repair if you approve the work. Before we touch a part, we give you a written quote with the line-item cost. Our repair carries a 90-day warranty on consumables, one year on major parts, and two years on the sealed system. CSLB #1136642.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Compressor Overheating, Warm Cabinet. Freestanding Summit units built into enclosed cabinetry without adequate rear and side clearance trap heat around the compressor, causing thermal cutout trips and eventually compressor failure. We confirm airflow specs against the installation before condemning the compressor. If the unit is otherwise sound, repositioning or cutting ventilation solves the problem without a parts repair.
- Door Gasket and Hinge Failure. Bar refrigerators in Point Richmond Victorian wet bars take a lot of door cycles, and the magnetic gaskets compress and crack over time, letting warm air in and driving continuous compressor run. We stock Summit-compatible gasket profiles and replace them in one visit. Sagging hinges that let the door hang out of square get adjusted or replaced at the same time.
- Defrost System Faults on Frost-Free Models. Summit frost-free compact units use a defrost heater, thermal fuse, and defrost timer or control board to cycle the evaporator coils. When the heater element burns out or the thermal fuse opens, ice builds up across the evaporator and airflow drops until the box stops cooling. We test each component individually, replace the failed part, and verify a full defrost cycle before closing the call.

FAQ
Summit in Richmond questions, answered.
-
How much does a Summit undercounter repair run in Richmond?
The $75 diagnostic fee covers our travel to Richmond and the bench diagnosis, and it applies to the repair total if you proceed. Parts and labor for common repairs, gaskets, fan motors, thermostats, typically land between $150 and $320 all in. Sealed-system compressor work costs more and we will tell you upfront if the repair math does not pencil against a replacement. -
Do you service Summit outdoor units installed on Marina Bay decks?
Yes. The outdoor-rated Summit models are in our scope, and we see them on covered decks and pool-house installs along the waterfront. Coastal salt air degrades condenser fins and electrical contacts faster than inland installs, so we inspect those components as part of the diagnostic. If corrosion is extensive we will show you exactly what we find and quote the remediation honestly. -
How soon can you get to Richmond for a Summit repair?
Richmond routes with our Berkeley and Oakland schedule, so availability is typically within a few business days. We do not promise same-day service, but we call with a two-hour arrival window the morning of your appointment. If you are in Point Richmond or the Annex, note the address when you book so we can slot it efficiently on the East Bay run.
