San Carlos has a lot of older Craftsman and bungalow homes on the streets running up from downtown and Laurel Street, and plenty of them still run the furnace that came with a remodel ten or fifteen years back. Closer to the hills in neighborhoods like Big Canyon and Eaton Park, redwoods and oaks shade the lots, and needles and debris end up in the outdoor coil more than you would expect.
Laurel Street's restaurant row sits right in the middle of town, and the residential blocks around it are close enough together that attic access for furnace work is often tight. I carry a compact set of tools for those jobs so I am not tearing into a ceiling more than I have to.
San Carlos falls inside our Peninsula coverage, so it groups with Belmont and Redwood City on the schedule rather than sitting on its own.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Coil fouling from redwood debris. The shaded lots near Big Canyon drop needles and sap onto the outdoor coil, and over a season or two that film cuts airflow until the Ruud AC struggles to cool or trips on high head pressure. I wash the coil out and check the charge afterward.
- Pressure switch hose cracking in older furnaces. The rubber hose that runs from the pressure switch to the inducer housing dries out and cracks with age, common in the furnaces installed during those older Craftsman remodels, and the furnace locks out before it ever lights. I replace the hose and confirm the switch closes clean.
- Draft inducer wheel wear. On older units the plastic inducer wheel goes brittle and chips, so the inducer motor spins but the pressure switch never sees enough draft to close. I swap the wheel or the full assembly depending on what I find.

My attic access is small and tight. Can you still service the furnace?
