- Gas heat not lighting on a packaged unit. The heat section of a Rheem packaged unit uses the same kind of ignitor, flame sensor and inducer as a furnace, only outdoors. Moisture and insects get into the burner compartment. We clean the burners and sensor, test the ignitor and pressure switch, and make sure the access panel seals properly afterward.
- Contactor and wiring corroded in an outdoor cabinet. With everything outside, the contactor pits and the low-voltage connections corrode. The unit hums without starting, or starts late and chatters. We replace the contactor, clean or remake the connections, and test the capacitor while the panel is open.
- Condensate trap clogged on the cooling side. In cooling season the coil drains through a trap on the side of the cabinet. Algae and debris block it, water backs into the pan, and a safety switch may shut the system down. We clear and flush the trap, check the pan for rust, and confirm the drain runs free.
