Moraga Kenmores tend to be older and better cared for than average. A lot of the ranch homes off Moraga Road and in Rheem Valley still run the same Kenmore top freezer or side-by-side the owners bought at the Sears in Concord twenty years ago, and those Whirlpool-built 106 machines respond well to repair. Adaptive defrost control board faults. Older Whirlpool-built Kenmores in Moraga often come to me with frost packed on the back wall of the freezer and a fresh food section that cannot hold temperature. The adaptive defrost board stops firing the heater. I verify the heater and defrost thermostat with a meter first, since replacing the board while a burned-out heater sits behind the panel fixes nothing.
Linear compressor failure on Elite 795 models. The LG-built Kenmore Elite bottom freezers with the linear compressor are common in Moraga kitchens remodeled in the 2010s. When that compressor loses capacity the unit runs constantly and slowly warms. This is sealed system work, and my EPA 608 Universal certification covers the refrigerant recovery and recharge that the job legally requires.
Condenser fan motor seizure. Kenmore side-by-sides parked in Moraga garages pull in dust, pet hair, and pollen through the condenser. Eventually the condenser fan bearing seizes, head pressure climbs, and the compressor overheats and cycles on its overload. We clean the coil and replace the fan in the same visit so the new motor is not breathing through a blanket of lint.
