Ice maker module on Whirlpool-built units. The modular ice maker in 106-series Kenmores is a known wear item. When it stops cycling, I run the test points on the module face to see whether the module, the water inlet valve, or a frozen fill tube is at fault. Replacing the whole ice maker when only the valve failed is a waste of your money, so I isolate it first.
Adaptive defrost control board. Newer Whirlpool-built Kenmores replaced the mechanical defrost timer with a control board. When it fails, frost slowly chokes the evaporator and cooling fades over a week or two. I confirm it by checking the defrost circuit end to end rather than guessing at the board.
Garage top-freezer running warm in winter. Alamo garages get cold enough at night that an older single-thermostat Kenmore stops running, and the freezer section thaws. Sometimes a thermostat swap solves it, sometimes the honest answer is that the unit needs a heater kit or a better location. I tell you which before you spend anything.
