Compressor start relay on 106-series side-by-sides. The classic symptom is a click every few minutes from the back of the fridge while the box slowly warms. On Whirlpool-built Kenmores the relay and overload are a cheap combined part, and I test the compressor windings first to confirm the compressor itself is healthy before replacing it. If the compressor checks bad instead, you get that answer in writing, not a wasted part.
Evaporator fan motor failure. Freezer stays cold, fresh food section creeps up to the 50s. That split almost always means the evaporator fan behind the freezer panel has stopped moving air. On older Alameda units I also find the fan blade iced solid from a separate defrost fault, so I check both before quoting.
Defrost heater on 253-series top-freezers. Frigidaire-built Kenmore top-freezers are common in Alameda rentals and in-law units. When the glass defrost heater cracks, frost builds on the rear wall and airflow dies. I meter the heater and the defrost thermostat in one visit since they fail together often enough to check both.
