Half Moon Bay is the anchor town for the Coastside, and we cover the same stretch of coast out to Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada as one territory. Homes near Main Street and the harbor restaurants sit close enough to the water that salt-laden air is part of daily weather, not an occasional event. That changes what actually fails on a Heil system out here compared to the same equipment fifteen miles inland.
The marine layer keeps summer cooling load low, so a lot of these systems lean on the furnace side more months of the year than a Tri-Valley or inland Peninsula home would. What wears out first on the coast is rarely the same as what wears out first in Danville. Salt in the air corrodes exposed metal contacts and coil fins well before the mechanical parts show their age, so we check those points specifically rather than run a generic inland diagnostic checklist.
Bay Area HVAC Service is our HVAC division, part of the ADRIUM Service Solutions family based in San Ramon. Half Moon Bay, Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada are covered by our technician stationed on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, so you are not waiting on a truck coming over Highway 92 from somewhere else. The diagnostic is $99, waived if you approve the repair, every job gets a written quote first, we carry CSLB #1136642 and EPA Section 608 certification, and we book seven days a week. Call (925) 999-4095.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Contactor Pitting and Corrosion from Salt Air. A contactor inland wears mainly from arcing at the contact face over thousands of start cycles. On the Coastside, salt-laden moisture in the air adds a second failure path, actual corrosion building on the contact surfaces and terminal connections even on a unit that has not run especially hard. We inspect contactor condition on Half Moon Bay service calls even when that is not the reported complaint, because a corroding contactor tends to fail without much warning.
- Condenser Coil Fin Corrosion. The aluminum fins on a Heil condenser or heat pump coil are vulnerable to salt air in a way inland units simply are not. Corrosion narrows the airflow path through the coil over time, which shows up as reduced cooling or heating capacity and higher head pressure than the unit should be running. We check fin condition and coil cleanliness as a standard part of any Coastside service call, not just when a customer mentions it.
- Control Board Terminal Corrosion. Salt moisture works its way into an outdoor unit's control compartment over years, and it settles on the low-voltage terminal connections at the board first. A terminal with visible green corrosion can cause an intermittent fault, a heat pump that drops out of defrost mode incorrectly, or a system that loses communication with the thermostat during damp weather without ever showing a hard failure. We clean and inspect terminal connections on coastal units as a matter of course rather than waiting for a full board failure.

FAQ
Heil in Half Moon Bay questions, answered.
-
Do you only cover Half Moon Bay proper, or do you get out to Montara and Moss Beach too?
We run the whole Coastside as one territory. Half Moon Bay, Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada all get the same technician, based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, and booking works the same regardless of which of those towns you're in, seven days a week. -
Does the salt air out here mean a Heil system won't hold up as well as it would inland?
Salt air is harder on any outdoor equipment regardless of brand, and Heil is no exception. Because it runs on the Carrier ICP platform, parts are easy for us to source when corrosion does take a contactor or a board out early. The honest answer is that coastal equipment needs a closer look at electrical connections and coil condition on a regular basis, and we build that into how we service units out here. -
What does the $99 diagnostic actually cover on a coastal call?
The same full diagnosis we run anywhere: fault codes, electrical measurements at the affected components, and a check of the heat exchanger or refrigerant circuit depending on the equipment. On the coast we also give the contactor, coil fins, and board terminals a closer look for corrosion. You get a written quote before any repair, and the $99 comes off the total if you approve the work.
