Goodman in Pacifica

Goodman in Pacifica kitchens.

Pacifica sits right on the ocean, and the salt air off the water is a real problem for any outdoor HVAC equipment, not just a talking point. Homes in Linda Mar, Sharp Park, and along Rockaway Beach take a steady dose of salt fog, and it works on bare metal faster than almost anywhere else we cover. Winters are mild and wet, summers stay cool, and cooling load is light most of the year.

Goodman heat pumps and furnaces are common here because the town rarely needs a big cooling system, and the equipment cost stays reasonable for a house that mostly needs heat and dry indoor air. The tradeoff is that an outdoor Goodman unit exposed to the ocean air ages faster on the outside than the same unit would in Danville or San Ramon, even if the compressor itself is sound.

Bay Area HVAC Service is our HVAC division under ADRIUM, licensed CSLB #1136642 and EPA Section 608 Universal certified. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, quotes come in writing, and we are on call 7 days a week. From Pacifica we also reach Daly City, San Bruno, and Half Moon Bay down the coast.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Condenser coil fin corrosion from ocean salt spray. Salt fog off the water settles on the aluminum fins of a Goodman condenser coil and corrodes them faster than dust or dirt would anywhere inland. Corroded fins choke airflow and cut cooling capacity, and once the fins go soft, cleaning does not bring the capacity back. I check fin condition on every Pacifica service call, not just when a customer complains.
  • Contactor and control box corrosion in the outdoor unit. Salt works its way into the electrical box on an outdoor Goodman unit over the years, and it pits the contactor contacts and corrodes the low-voltage terminals. The system can run intermittently or refuse to start on a damp morning. I clean and reseal the box when I catch this early, and I check whether the cabinet gasket has failed and is letting the salt air in.
  • Copper line set pinhole leaks from salt exposure. On older installs where the refrigerant line set runs exposed outside instead of insulated and jacketed, salt air pits the bare copper over the years and eventually opens a pinhole leak at a joint. The system loses charge slowly, so cooling fades over a season rather than failing all at once. I pressure test the whole line set, not just the fitting nearest the leak.

FAQ

Goodman in Pacifica questions, answered.

  • Is Pacifica within your normal coverage, or do you make an exception for it?
It is normal coverage. We keep a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, so Pacifica gets the same response as Daly City or San Bruno, not a special trip from San Ramon.
  • Does the salt air really shorten the life of my system here?
It shortens the life of the outdoor cabinet and coil more than the life of the compressor itself. A unit installed with a coated coil and kept clean holds up noticeably better here than one left to the fog untreated.
  • My Goodman heat pump barely cools in summer but heats fine. Is that the salt air?
It can be, if the coil fins have corroded and lost surface area, or it can be a low charge from a slow leak in an exposed line set. I check both before I say which one it is.
