Outdoor PCB corrosion near the estuary. Alameda salt air gets into the outdoor unit. On Daikin RX-series condensers I find green corrosion on the control board terminals and the reactor connections, which shows up as an L5 or L4 inverter fault. I clean and re-terminate, and if the board is pitted through I replace it, not the compressor.
Mini-split drain backing up in a flat. In a tight Victorian flat the indoor head condensate line often runs long and flat. It clogs with biofilm and the Daikin float switch trips, showing an A5 or AF flag and shutting the unit off. I clear the line, flush it, and reset the slope so it drains by gravity instead of fighting it.
Communication fault between indoor and outdoor. A U4 code on a Daikin means the indoor and outdoor units stopped talking. In older Alameda flats the interconnect wire was often run by a handyman with the wrong gauge or a loose lug. I meter the line, fix the connection, and confirm the F1/F2 signal before I call it done.
