Cove in Benicia
Cove in Benicia kitchens.
Between 1970 and 1995 Benicia grew from a small town into a bedroom suburb, so a lot of its kitchens started out with a builder dishwasher and a laminate counter. A Cove arrives later, in a remodel, often as a panel-ready model faced to match new cabinets. That history explains many of its problems: a panel heavier than the door springs were set for, a supply line reused from the old machine, or a drain hose rerouted in a hurry.
The water adds its own variable. Benicia water is moderately hard, and the hardness shifts as the city blends the State Water Project, Lake Berryessa and Lake Herman. A Cove that washes clean one month and spots glasses the next may simply be reacting to that. Cove calls in town go to our technician, who is based right here in Benicia. You pay a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair once you approve the written quote.

Common repairs we handle.
- Panel-ready door that drops open or slams shut. The door springs are set for the weight of the front. A thick new cabinet panel without a spring adjustment lets the door fall open and strains the hinges, and a light one makes it snap closed. We check the spring setting against the panel you installed, adjust or replace the springs, and look at the hinge pins for wear.
- Old supply line kept from the previous dishwasher. A remodel sometimes keeps the old braided line or copper tube. If it is short, kinked or corroded at the fitting, the Cove fills slowly or drips behind the toe kick. We replace the line at the right length and test the stop valve it connects to.
- Spots that come and go with the water. When the hardness rises, glasses spot even with the same detergent. We test the wash temperature and the rinse aid release, clean the filter and sump, and raise the rinse aid setting so the Cove copes with the harder stretches.

FAQ
Cove in Benicia questions, answered.
-
Our Eastside house still has the drain plumbing from the 1980s. Is that a problem for a newer Cove?
It can be. The Cove pumps its water out under pressure, and an old tailpiece or a drain line that has narrowed slows it down. Water can then sit in the sump or back up from the sink. We check the high loop, the connection at the disposer or tailpiece, and the flow through the line before we look at the pump. -
Our West Side kitchen is small. Can the Cove be repaired without removing the panel and trim?
Most repairs happen from the front or with the Cove slid forward: filter, pump, spray arms, valve and door parts. We only pull the machine out fully when the failed part sits behind the tub, and we protect the panel and the floor before it moves. -
Why does our Cove spot glasses some months and not others?
The hardness of Benicia water moves with the mix of supplies the city is using. Harder water leaves more mineral on glass, and a rinse aid setting that worked one month may not keep up the next. Turn the rinse aid up a step or two. If spotting continues, the wash may not be reaching temperature, and that means checking the heater and sensor.
