- Undersized original ductwork in downtown bungalows. Homes near Laurel Street and the flat downtown blocks often still run the original narrow return and supply runs from before central air conditioning existed. A newer Carrier furnace pushed into that old ductwork can trip on high static pressure or short cycle, and the fix is resizing the return, not swapping the furnace again.
- Zone board communication faults on hillside custom builds. The larger custom homes in White Oaks and Big Canyon often run a zoned Carrier system across two or three areas. When one zone stops responding, the zone board has usually lost communication with a damper actuator rather than the condenser failing, and we trace the zoning before we touch the outdoor unit.
- Run capacitor failure on sun-exposed hillside condensers. Condensers set on pads that catch direct afternoon sun in the San Carlos hills run hotter than a shaded downtown unit, and the run capacitor degrades faster for it. A hard-start or no-start condenser on one of these hillside homes is often the capacitor, not the compressor, and we check it first.
