The common failure is the indoor blower wheel fouling or the indoor PCB throwing a communication error to the outdoor unit. We pull and clean the wheel, check the line-set connections for the right torque, and read the error code off the indoor board before replacing anything.
Heat pump reversing valve and defrost control. On Carrier heat pumps here the reversing valve solenoid and the defrost board are the typical failures. The unit gets stuck in one mode or ices over and will not defrost. We check the solenoid coil, the defrost thermostat and the board logic so we are not guessing, since a reversing valve replacement is a real job.
