Those neighborhoods get more sun and less fog than the flats near the bay, so the cooling load runs higher than people expect for a city this close to the coast.
The housing stock here mixes older 1940s and 1950s houses on Sign Hill with mid-century tract homes further out toward Winston Manor and Buri Buri, plus some newer builds. A lot of it has been remodeled at least once, and older remodels sometimes left ductwork undersized or wiring patched in ways that show up later as a Bryant control fault instead of the original problem.

I pressure test the whole circuit and find the actual leak point instead of just topping off the charge.
- Limit switch trips in older Sign Hill ductwork. The older homes up on Sign Hill often have tight, undersized crawlspace ducting left over from decades of remodels. When airflow gets restricted, the Bryant furnace's high limit switch trips on heat build-up and shuts the burner down mid-cycle. I check static pressure and duct condition before I touch the switch itself.
- Zoning control losing communication after a thermostat swap. A fair number of South San Francisco homes have had a smart thermostat installed by someone other than us, and on a zoned Bryant Evolution system the wrong thermostat breaks the communication bus between the zone panel and the outdoor unit. I check whether the installed thermostat is actually compatible with Evolution zoning before I chase anything else.
